Always first - Together

Always first - Together - ArtFemine 7th festival
Always first - Together - ArtFemine 7th festival

This year has been challenging for everyone, and it still is. However, that did not stop us from continuing to work in the field of combating violence, human trafficking, and women's health and sexuality. We addressed these topics through education, activism, and creativity. Here is what we did from July to mid-October. Enjoy reading.

SOS

From July to mid-October, we had 53 services provided in the domain of SOS.

Always first - Together - ArtFemine 7th festival

This year, we held the ArtFemine festival for the 7th time, for the first time with guests only from Serbia due to the pandemic. The program included a street action, a panel, "Always first - Women Covid 19", a performance "Together to dignified work" and 6 workshops, as well as an exhibition "Women's activist visuals". Workshops: Yoga, By dancing into the women's revolution, Making jewelry from recyclable material, Making natural soaps, Our identities and our realities, By bike in search of freedom and theater. 66 people attended and participated in the festival.

The last hearing of Marija L.

Activists of the Girls' Center stood on the streets of Nis and gave unreserved support to Marija L. at the time of the last hearing. Marija L. is a woman who sued her boss for sexual harassment. Two and a half years after the trial was initiated, a verdict was reached that the accused was guilty. He received only 3 months in prison for the crime of illicit sexual activity. This is the first time that someone in Serbia has received a verdict for that.

Workshop on the prevention of human trafficking

A workshop on the prevention of human trafficking was held in Nis on July 17, organized by the Center for Girls, and with respect for all protection measures. The workshop was led by peer educators Danica S. and Mina K.

World Anti-Trafficking Day - July 30

On July 30, we marked World Anti-Trafficking Day. In addition to handing out flyers and holding banners, a performance was performed with Marcelo's song "Plug", which talks about labor exploitation. The performance was conceived in 2017 by Natasa N.

Mini online anti-trafficking campaign

In August, we had a mini-campaign in which we shot videos on the topic of human trafficking. The videos are short with the most important information on how to protect yourself. 6 girls/women participated in the filming. Filmed by: Sanja K.

6th Feminist art colony

This year's 6th Feminist Art Colony was attended by 11 female artists. Due to the pandemic this year, only girls and women from Serbia participated. Also, due to the impossibility to realize the colony in Sicevo, as in the previous 5 years, this one was held in the hostel Tašana, in Niš. At this year's colony, the female artists had the opportunity to see 3 fantastic performances: "Nadezda Petrovic - a self-portrait in the plural"; "I am an emotional being", and "Vagina's monologues" by Eve Ensler.

Active again after summer

In September, after the summer and the break, we had meetings with our activists and talked about new plans.

We joined the action of friends from Zagreb from the NGO Women's Room in marking the "National Day for Combating Violence against Women". We kept 3 papers with which we took photos on the street and then posted them on our social networks.

Creative workshop of soap making

The workshop, where it was possible to learn from which materials natural soaps are made, as well as soap decorating techniques, was attended by 14 little girls, girls, and women. They also had the opportunity to try their hand at making them. The workshop was led by Sanja K. & Marta S.

Creative workshop of collage making

9 girls and women learned how to make something new, new shape, a new story from old material.

The workshop was led by Marina R.

Cross-sectoral training "Improving the response in human trafficking procedures"

Through cross-sectoral training "Improving the Response to Trafficking Procedures", 35 representatives of institutions and CSOs improved their knowledge in working on cases of trafficking in human beings through the identification of obstacles and the exchange of previous experiences. The training was realized in Vrnjacka Banja with the participation of relevant actors in the fight against human trafficking: police (Niš, Zrenjanin, Leskovac, Belgrade, Prijepolje, Pirot, Uzice, Vranje), higher prosecutor's office (Novi Sad, Zrenjanin, Belgrade, Niš, Vranje ), centers for social work (Nis, Vranje, Dimitrovgrad, Prijepolje, Vlasotince, Zrenjanin) and non-governmental organizations, members of the AT network (Belgrade, Uzice, Prijepolje, Nis, Vlasotince, Vranje).

Attendees could also hear Nevena's life story. She is from Nis and back in '95 she ended up in a human trafficking chain in which she was for 2 years.

Performance "Women's Cemetery"

In Serbia, one woman is killed every 10 days. With the street performance "Women's Cemetery", we sent a message to our fellow citizens that this is a common problem and that they should not turn their heads. The performance was performed by activists of the Girls' Center. During the hour that the performance lasted, passers-by could hear 315 names and surnames of women killed in the last 10 years in domestic and partner violence. The performance was seen by over 1000 people. Audio recording: Marijana P.

European Day against Trafficking in Human Beings in Nis

Activists of the Center for Girls marked October 18 - European Day against Trafficking in Human Beings. The Center for Girls is part of the Anti-Trafficking Network.

In addition to handing out flyers and holding banners, we talked a lot with fellow citizens on this topic. The street action was seen by over 500 people.

Film marathon in September and October

We started a film marathon in September and October, so we watched movies with activists and had conversations after watching them. The films are chosen to touch on the topics we are dealing with and which will enable the audience to face their prejudices and better understand some things.

All activities were carried out with all precautionary measures due to the pandemic.

Stay with us.

Stay tuned.
