We’d like to share with you the remarkable story of Sandip—a testament to resilience, transformation, and the power of long-term support.
Sandip was born into a deeply troubled home consumed by drug abuse, alcoholism, and violence. Neglected and excluded from school, he was forced to fend for himself. By age 13, home was no longer a safe place. He ended up on the streets—begging, sniffing glue to numb his hunger, and caught in the dangers of gang life.
Our outreach workers found Sandip and with our support, he moved into our street shelter, re-enrolled in school, and began to rebuild his life. He was making progress, but tragedy struck again.
His mother, suffering from severe mental illness, took her own life. Shortly after, his father became paralysed following a violent incident at a construction site. Sandip’s world crumbled once more. He dropped out of full-time education to become his father’s sole carer while trying to earn enough to survive.
Through it all, the Kidasha team stood by him.
We helped arrange care for his father, find safe employment, and access early morning classes so he could continue his studies. Most importantly, we supported him in developing the confidence and resilience needed to break free from his past and shape a new future.
Today, Sandip works as a para-social worker—giving back by supporting vulnerable children in his community. He’s proud of how far he’s come. He knows from experience that while food or school fees may offer short-term relief, real, lasting change takes time, trust, and the right support.
For over 20 years, Kidasha has helped transform the lives of children like Sandip. But the need is growing. Too many children are still trapped in crisis, alone and at risk.
With your support, we can reach more of them.
If you can, please consider donating again today. Together, we can build brighter futures.
With best wishes
The Kidasha Team
