This project will allow Nofy i Androy (NiA) to move students off its waiting list by paying for their school supplies, uniforms, and tuition, regardless of grade level.
Tandroy girls and women face several hurdles in accessing education, including being married as children, famines, and their parents' inability to pay for their studies. Despite NiA's work in the region, which currently has 487 students between the 5th and 12th grades and higher education, the work will never be done. By 2026, NiA aims to have 800 students enrolled in its core tutoring program to continue making education accessible.
NiA provides free education for its students, circumventing the issues of parents not being able to pay to educate their daughters. The students are encouraged to continue their studies through higher education to secure well-paying occupations, improve their circumstances, and contribute to the development of Androy and Madagascar. Increasing its student body means more Tandroy girls and women can access NiA's life-changing education.
NiA's graduates include two midwives, one IT engineer, and one high school teacher, with several more students currently enrolled in higher education programs. Sixty percent of NiA's staff are former program students. The graduates are breaking the cycle of generational poverty in their occupations. By increasing the student body to 800, the long-term impact will continue the reduction of poverty and child marriages while creating economic opportunities for Tandroy girls and women.
