Provide free education, vocational training and therapy for 35 special needs children in rural Thabazimbi, South Africa. These children hail from the poorest rural living areas, live in horrific conditions and is exposed to violence and hunger on a daily basis. The school provides 2 meals and a snack daily, academic and vocational education, speech, physio and occupational therapy and after school care providing a full day service. Parents are able to look for work and do odd jobs for income.
With the recent collapse of the local economy, many people have been left unemployed and have sent more people into poverty living in rural Thabazimbi, South Africa. Majority of people are already living in informal settlements and don't have access to education, food and basic needs. Children with special needs and disabilities suffer the most under these circumstances as they are seen as children who can't contribute to society or development.
Spitskop Special Needs School will provide a safe school environment to cater for these children and will have a two fold resolve. The child will have full day care, get stimulation, therapy, education, nutritional meals. This will provide relief to the parents and free up their time to enable them to find employment and improve their own living conditions. The school will also pay travelling expenses to get them to school and back home again safely by paying for public transport.
This project will educate and develop skills for 35 special needs children to enable them to become self-sustainable, learn a trade to possibly make them employable and enable them to have a productive and dignified life.
