Building Literacy of Refugee Ukrainian Children

#BooksGiveRefuge
#BooksGiveRefuge

In the #BooksGiveRefuge project, as the Universal Reading Foundation, we raise funds to help Ukrainian children, to support their literacy skills and book access in the difficult time of war in their homeland. We continue to support social welfare centres, schools and libraries that approach us to ask for much needed books. Our priority is to reach out to all the refugees who experience difficulties when it comes to the book access and the culture of reading.

Last year, we managed to distribute more than 80 Kindle e-readers, which we received thanks to our cooperation with the International Book Project, to the public libraries visited by people from Ukraine living in Poland.

Since the last report, that is since mid-June, we have distributed more than 200 books in Ukrainian and 300 in Polish to, among others: Foundation for Children and Young People at the Edge of the Rainbow, Sarigato Foundation, 3 public libraries and 4 primary schools.

We are constantly trying to reach out to those in need - in Poland and Ukraine - who could benefit from book resources and who, in the current situation, do not have an access and opportunities to participate in the book culture. Involving children, but also adults, remains a priority.

We continue the #BooksGiveRefuge campaign. A huge barrier to become a reader is the lack of books.

Reading has the superpower of equalising children's chances for a better future. Reading books helps to relieve stress, develop emotionally and work through trauma.

Thanks to your support we will be able to acquire more books that we can provide many more children with.
