In the past three months, your generous support has contributed to daily nutrition at Busiliwa Junior School in Bududa and Agaria's new primary school. That’s a total of over 15,000 meals per term. In isolated and impoverished villages, school meals are vital for the health and development of vulnerable children. Without your support, many children would eat less than once a day. The role of the two schools is now over 300.
You also contributed to scholastic materials in Agaria, five secondary school bursaries for girls, and five educational bursaries at Mbale School of Nursing, University, and Technical College.
Our community partner in Agaria has registered Agaria Community Foundation as their new Community Based Organisation. The first thing ACF did was repurpose an abandoned building to create four primary classrooms and employ four teachers. A youth team helped with the construction and is now busy pressing 10,000 ecological bricks from murram soil. The bricks will build the first permanent classrooms in Agaria, saving the environmental costs of traditional burnt bricks and heavy cement mixes. A grant to build the school is in process.
Not all is well. In February, Agaria suffered extreme hail storms that destroyed crops and houses, hospitalising three people. Standing water then becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. But the community stands strong and the new Community Foundation will rise to every challenge to make life better for all.
Thank you for your commitment and continuing support.
