According to UNICEF, early marriage and pregnancy keep girls out of school in Tanzania. Adolescent pregnancy led to almost 3,700 girls dropping out of primary and secondary education in 2016. More than one-third of all girls are married by the age of 18, but girls from poor families are twice as likely to be married early than girls from wealthier homes.
It is common knowledge that girls in urban areas of Tanzania are eight times more likely to finish secondary education than girls in rural areas mainly due to extreme poverty and limited access to opportunities.
It is against this backdrop that Advocacy Initiative for Development (AID) continues to support girls education in Tanzania. During the period under review, the organization with funds raised through the GlobalGiving platform provided tuition fees, school uniforms, shoes, books to 20 primary and secondary school girls in the Arusha rural community.
We continue to thank and appreciate our partners and friends who donated their hard-earned cash towards this project. Please be rest assured that through your generous support, you're positively impacting the lives of young gilrls in Arusha, Tanzania.
