Project Report | Aug 17, 2024
EWEI-GG EEE June 2023- August 2023 Report

By Safiya Ibn Garba | Project Leader

EDUCATE, EQUIP AND EMPOWER 230 WOMEN AND GIRLS

The Educate, Equip & Empower (EEE) project is a strategic initiative aimed at addressing critical challenges faced by women and girls in Nigeria, particularly in the areas of poverty alleviation, school retention, enrollment, and the completion of girl child education. The project also facilitates networking and mentorship opportunities between female students and women professionals globally, while providing access to academic, professional, and financial opportunities for women and girls. This report provides an update on the activities carried out between June 2023 and August 2023.

June2023 – August 2023 Update

EWEI Online, our dynamic online community, has continued to serve as a vibrant platform for horizontal learning, exchange, and mentorship. Throughout this quarter, the community has been actively engaged in a series of discussions and activities aimed at empowering youth as agents of a safe and sustainable global environment.

The central theme for this quarter was "Empowering Youth as Agents of a Safe and Sustainable Global Environment." The following sub-topics were explored in depth:

  • Youth Empowerment for Environmental Sustainability: Discussions focused on the critical role of young people in driving environmental sustainability initiatives.
  • Enlightening Environmental Facts and Statistics: Members were provided with key statistics and facts to enhance their understanding of global environmental issues.
  • Equipping Youth with Risk Management Tools for Environmental Sustainability: The discussion centered on tools and strategies that youth can use to mitigate environmental risks.
  • Promoting Recycling as a Key Environmental Practice: Emphasis was placed on the importance of recycling and how youth can take the lead in promoting this practice.
  • Nurturing Green Skills for Youths: The community explored the development of green skills that are essential for the future workforce.

Additionally, EWEI Online members were invited to participate in a free digital skills training conducted by ImpactHER in partnership with EWEI and Google. This training provided valuable digital literacy skills, essential for career advancement in today’s technology-driven world.

Furthermore, global and local funding opportunities were regularly shared on the platform, offering members visibility into professional, academic, and financial avenues for growth and development.

Challenges

While the EWEI Online platform has seen progress, we faced challenges that hindered full engagement and growth:

  • Low Engagement: Despite the enriching content, member engagement on the platform remained below expectations.
  • Membership Growth: We have not yet reached our target of 300 members, which limits the potential impact of our initiatives.

Mitigation Strategies

To address these challenges, we implemented the following strategies:

  • Enhanced Content Sharing: We continued to share educational resources, success stories, and DIY tools, aiming to increase interaction among members. Videos were also introduced as a means to foster greater interactivity.
  • Membership Drive: The link to the EWEI Online community was shared during EWEI events, and we actively encouraged women and girls we interact with to join the platform.

Next Steps

As we move forward, our focus will be on further increasing engagement and expanding our community:

  • Cross-Posting Strategy: We will regularly post content from EWEI Online across all of EWEI’s social media platforms, encouraging broader participation.
  • Interactive Engagements: We plan to organize Facebook Live events to discuss trending social and professional issues with members, while also soliciting their input on topics they are interested in exploring further on the platform.
  • Community Building: We will continue to engage members through polls, riddles, fun facts, and questions, aiming to create a more interactive and connected community.
