Educational support package distribution

By Purna Shova Chitrakar | Coordinator

NCBL distributed educational support packages to 10 conflict affected girls in the Madi village in Chitwan district. We would like to thank the GlobalGiving community for supporting this endeavor. During the conflict, a bomb planted by the rebel groups in Madi exploded resulting in 39 deaths. 72 people sustained severe injuries in the blast.

NCBL organized this event to provide the girls with basic supplies needed for school. With this support NCBL hopes to ease their access to better education. NCBL, with this event, also encouraged local leaders and organizations to invest on educating these conflict victim girls.

Local leaders, local journalists, victims of the explosion, women and children were present in the event. After receiving the educational package Yamaka Choin said, "When the bomb exploded I was pregnant. I did not think I would survive. Fortunately, I survived and so did my child. She goes to school now. I am very happy to receive support from the NCBL. We did not have enough money to buy the items that my daughter has to take to school."

Lal Bahadur Pun, uncle of Monika Pun shared with the attendees, "After Monika’s mother was injured in the explosion her father married another woman and refused to provide financial support to her mother. Later her mother married another man too. Monika was left behind by both and was almost like an orphan. I have taken care of her so far, but I am a poor man. The grain from my farm is only enough for about three to four months. Buying Monika things for school was really difficult for me. I am so glad that NCBL is able to help her continue her education.”

The 1-year educational support package contains a set of school uniform, school bag, notebooks, pencils, pens, ink, a drawing pad, pencil colors and a geometry box.
