It's Almost Summer! - Note from the Director
It's that time of year again! With Holi celebrations finished, summer's just around the corner and we are preparing for the heat (and the fun in the monsoon!). The entire Gramin Shiksha Kendra community had a blast celebrating holi. Check out some of the pictures below--we hope you have as much fun viewing them as we did celebrating!

A Few Updates from Life at the Uday Community Schools:
Arts at School
We've had some really exciting arts projects going on. The children at Uday Community School - Jaganpura created some fantastic tiger oriented art work and beautiful pottery. We believe art is an important medium for children to express what they see around them--and love seeing the incredible works the children create!
National Science Day
We celebrated National Science Day last month by creating projects and models and exhibiting them to eachother. Children evaluated and discussed eachother's experiments, learning from their peers. Peer-to-peer learning is a key component of strong education.
GSK Student's Surpass State Averages by Far
You may have heard about ASER--an assessment, evaluation and research unit that assesses the annual status of education in India each year and releases a report (check out their work and the resources they provide here). We recently decided to perform an ASER survey using the resources ASER provides. Take a look at how GSK students' performance compares to state averages from the 2018 ASER report.
Education initiatives like Gramin Shiksha Kendra are important because they are working to provide children with quality, individualised education that encourages them to think critically and enjoy learning. Our work isn't only limited to our Uday Community Schools--where we provide 400 children with child centric education--but it scaled up through our Vistaar (expansion) program where we work closely with government schools to train them in our education methods. Together, we're working to change the culture of education in Sawai Madhopur and Tonk district and empower a community of new learners.
We've included a link to the 2018 ASER report below, in case you'd like to read further about the status of education in India.

Children's Corner: Poems by Children from Gramin Shiksha Kendra
Every two months the children of Gramin Shiksha Kendra publish a magazine called Morange, a word that means peacock feather. The magazine includes stories, drawings, and poems that the children have created. In each newsletter, we'll be sharing a little tidbit of the children's work. If you're interested in viewing full copies of Morange, you can check them out at our website in the link at the end of this newsletter.
Jantar-Mantar (Magic) - A Poem by Sukhram Meena, age 12
(translated from Hindi to English)
I will eat a red tomato.
I will go to Madhopur.
A tiger came to Madhopur.
He ate bitter berries.
There was poison in the berries.
After eating the berries the tiger became delirious.
He ran into the jungle where a sadhu was doing magic.
The sadhu did some magic and the tiger put on a talisman.
After touching the talisman, he was cured from the poison.
The tiger scampered off into the forest.
And as always, thank you for your ongoing support! We are grateful that you are a part of the Gramin Shiksha Kendra community.
