Educate Children in Mexico through Technology

Thanks to your support we exceeded our project goal of $20,000 for scholarships for children at the RIA, raising a total of $22,368. This will allow us to provide scholarships to over 400 students at the RIA. We will post a project report in the spring of 2012 to tell you about the final distribution of scholarships funded by your donations. We’ve marked this project as fully funded, but we´ll let you know as soon as we open a new project on GlobalGiving, which should be before the end of January.

We´re already in the second week of 2012, but we´d like to share details about some important achievements and highlights of last year. 2011 was an incredible year for Fundación Proacceso. We launched new courses and initiatives, forged key alliances and expanded the network of RIA centers to eight new municipalities.

Expansion and Impact

The RIA opened 27 new centers, bringing the network to a total of 70 centers in 34 municipalities.

We’ll end the year with:

• More than 180,000 users.
• More than 51,000 graduates.
• More than 169 new employees (jobs created) in the RIA.

Highlights

• SocialRIA: in the fall we introduced SocialRIA, a course that teaches people about the professional and personal uses of social networks.
• Chíspale: the Fundación designed and built Chíspale, an online platform containing educational video games that compliment core parts of the curriculum of Mexico´s Secretary of Public Education (SEP).
• My Community: A Multimedia Look: we collaborated with Adobe Youth Voices and TakingItGlobal to design a course on multimedia. The students created five final videos that you can watch here.
• Expedición RIA: we launched a comprehensive learning route to help improve the academic performance of children in primary school.
• The RIA and the OECD: we participated in the OECD´s 50th annual forum and the RIA´s architecture was featured in Designing for Education: Compendium of Exemplary Educational Facilities 2011.

Gracias a tu apoyo superamos la meta de nuestro proyecto de recaudar $20,000 dólares destinados a becas para niños en la RIA, al final logramos recaudar un total de $22,368. Estosfondos nos permitirán beneficiar a más de 400 estudiantes en la RIA. Publicaremos un reporte del proyecto en el primer semestre de 2012 para contarte los detalles de la distribución final de las becas. Hemos marcado este proyecto como “financiado”, pero te haremos saber  cuándo empecemos un nuevo proyecto en GlobalGiving, lo que debería suceder antes de finalizar enero.

Ya estamos en la segunda semana de 2012, pero nos parece importante compartirte algunos de los logros y hechos importantes de 2011. La Fundación Proacceso y la RIA lograron incrementar este año su impacto social a través del lanzamiento de nuevos cursos, consolidando nuevas alianzas y expandiendo la red de centros educativos a más municipios.

Expansión e Impacto

La RIA logró instalar 27 centros nuevos llegando a 70 centros en 34 municipios, con el apoyo del Gobierno del Estado de México, el Consejo Mexiquense de Ciencia y Tecnología (COMECyT) y el Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).

Cerraremos el año con:

• 70 centros.
• Más de 180,000 usuarios.
• Más de 51,000 graduados.
• Más de 169 trabajos creados en la RIA.

Hechos importantes

• SocialRIA: este curso muestra los usos productivos de las redes sociales.
• Chíspale: por primera vez la Fundación desarrolló una plataforma de video juegos educativos disponibles para niños de primaria con el apoyo de la Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP).
• Mi comunidad: una mirada multimedia: trabajamos junto con Adobe Youth Voices y TakingItGlobal para diseñar un curso de multimedia. Los estudiantes crearon 5 videos finales los cuales puedes ver haciendo clic aquí.
• Expedición RIA: lanzamos una ruta exclusiva para mejorar el desempeño académico de niños de primaria.
• La RIA en la OCDE: participamos en el foro de conmemoración del 50 Aniversario de la OCDE y también nuestra arquitectura fue reconocida en el 4to compendio.
