Project Report 2024 Q3

By Ijeoma Ezeagwula | Director of Programs and Community Engagement

Dear Friend of CCI,

We are thrilled to share the progress and impact of our community engagement efforts made possible by your generous giving. You and CCI now support 18 low-cost schools to advance quality education for all children.

Back-to-School Project:

Our 2024 Back-to-School outreach made a significant impact. We served 700 children easing the burden on parents facing economic hardships that have led to increased school dropout rates. Each student received a sturdy backpack with books and other necessary supplies to support their education and keep them in school.  Additionally, we provided brand-new, comfortable leather shoes to 200 children, as many in our community lack adequate footwear. We also subsidized tuition for several children and awarded full-tuition scholarships to two undergraduate students, bringing our total number of scholarship recipients to four. With your generous support, we are enhancing educational access for the underserved, thereby helping more children stay in school and thrive.

Mobile Library Project:

The mobile library is an ongoing project providing access to a broad selection of books to 1500+ children in our community. This project attracts the most running cost but despite the continuously increasing price of fuel and truck maintenance cost, we have continued to serve our community’s children weekly because of your generous giving.  This quarter, we acquired 26 new boxes of children’s books, expanding our collection to include resources for secondary-age students. Now we can serve secondary schools. We also launched a Summer Reading Program. The pilot project was carried out at select orphanages across four locations in Lagos, engaging the children productively during the long holiday. During the 6 weeks program, the library truck visited the orphanages weekly providing book lending services to the residents of the homes.

These initiatives are continuously fostering a love of learning, nurturing curious minds, and boosting the confidence and self-esteem of the children we serve. It allows them to see the world beyond their immediate environment and circumstances and inspires hope. By consistently contributing to their education, together we are helping to address the critical issue highlighted by UNICEF, which reports that one out of every five out-of-school children globally is in Nigeria. Our efforts are making a significant impact, contribute to reducing this alarming statistic and ensuring more children are supported to stay in school and can succeed.

Thank you for your generous giving. Your consistent support makes these achievements possible for our community’s children. Thank You!
