By Bryan Lemos | Project Leader
Hello Donors,
I apologize for the delay in updates with the project. I have returned to the US and there's been a lot going on with the transition. I was happy to see a lot of you upon my return. For those I haven't, I hope to see you soon.
The scholarship program is moving along well. Luckily, Peace Corps sent a replacement to Santa Rosa de Copán, the town where AMPRO is, and he is working closely with the leaders of the scholarship program to give insight and give expertise as well. I can't tell you enough how huge this is for the program. I believe the leaders of the scholarship program at AMPRO would have done fine but having another volunteer down there is an added bonus. His name is Slater Matzke and he is from right here in the Bay Area.
Right now he and the team are working with the local communities to select the youth recipients of the scholarships along with the youth leaders of the program. The scholarships are scheduled to be handed out in November.
On top of that, as an addition to the scholarships, Slater is putting together a program that includes small business training, development, and start up financing. Another Peace Corps Volunteer in a town close by designed the program and it is going well. Slater wants to take that and adapt it to serve some of the youth of AMPRO and those who are part of the scholarship program.
All in all things are going very well. And so to you, the donors, the people funded this project, who without this program would not be possible, we say THANK YOU. We are so grateful that this was possible, and that together we can do something to give back. We say thank you for sharing with others the good graces and opportunity we have so fortunately been given in our own lives. We are all in this together, and we are so glad you are part of this.
Cheers!
-Bryan
