Fresh as a Daisy

By Shana Greene | Co-Executive Director/Village Volunteers

Dear Supporters,

There is nothing like new clothes to make children feel special. Every day the children receive nutritious meals and snacks into the evening but days when children are given new garments are worthy of recognition. In the photo of the children doing yoga, they are wearing their new clothes and delighted to have such love and support.

Those of you who support the shelter, particularly monthly, are the behind-the-scenes heroes who provide the funds for Urmi Basu, the Director, and her dedicated staff to provide excellent care. So often those who are privileged don't realize how fortunate they are when new clothes help them feel loved and supported. The children in the shelters are educated and prove to themselves that they can do anything they set their minds to do.

The children you support in the shelter continue to be supported. We are excited and incredibly proud of six students from New Light Kolkata who completed the first level of education by clearing their secondary school exams. It might not seem like a big deal for most students but when one comes from families where most adults are either totally illiterate or have barely crossed the threshold of primary school, this means the entire world is open to them.

Thank you for being there with your support and encouragement. We are very grateful for the unconditional love that you bring to the students by believing in them.

Thank you!
