Greetings to our supporters,
Our sincere gratitude to our supporters for the continued support to Upendo children and activities. Children are our most valuable resource and meeting their needs ensures that we have a better generation and future. We continue to support children by advancing access to quality education, feeding, healthcare, vocational skills training and psychosocial support.
Education and feeding are our core programmes where children are supported through school and also provided with 3 meals a day at the organization and at school. We do this by believing that education is the greatest equalizer of conditions of men. Upendo’s education programme supports orphaned and vulnerable children through school across all levels of education (primary, secondary and tertiary). By paying their school fees and meeting their other learning materials, we are ensuring that all our beneficiaries stay in school and get quality education to help them become independent and responsible citizens who will be able to take care of their own families as well as support other needy children in their own community.
With your support and contributions, we have been able to continue supporting 22 children through secondary school by paying their school fees and feeding them. About half of these will be sitting for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in November this year and despite their poor backgrounds, they have been excelling in their academics and we are optimistic that all of them will pass their examinations and join universities and colleges to pursue their passions.
Meet Pius and Purity Charo - our beneficiaries who are siblings and total orphans. They were admitted into Nursery School at the project and have been supported by Upendo since then. They are currently in their fourth form awaiting their national examinations late this year. Pius is at Ribe Boys Secondary School (a national school in Kaloleni) while Purity is at Ribe Girls Secondary School (an extra county school in Kaloleni). They have been able to attend primary and secondary school through the support of Upendo and are both doing very well and promising to join university. Pius is passionate about computers while Purity wants to be a nurse.
Besides excelling academically, the two are also qualified tailors who were trained at Upendo and passed their grade III national tailoring examination. They make uniforms for themselves and other Upendo children over school holidays.
Thank you and best regards,
