The Educate and Empower, Change a Life in Kenya project continues to significantly improve educational outcomes for underprivileged students in Ruaraka’s informal settlements. In the second quarter of 2025, the program engaged 12 volunteer teachers and mentors who provided free daily teaching and weekly mentorship across six partner schools, directly benefiting over 184 students. These efforts have led to measurable improvements in academic performance and literacy levels, fulfilling the project’s goal of equipping informal settlement children with strong literacy and core life skills to succeed.
Volunteer teachers and mentors have played a pivotal role in enhancing both academic standards and extracurricular activities, positively impacting over 300 needy students since 2024. Despite successes, assessments revealed that partner schools remain poorly equipped with reading and learning materials, prompting a call for support to supply adequate resources for over 500 students in 2025. The project’s holistic approach combining education, mentorship, and community support addresses poverty by empowering young learners with vital skills to improve their futures.
Progressive Volunteers and beneficiaries express gratitude to donors whose support has been crucial for sustaining these educational initiatives and advancing universal primary education in disadvantaged areas. Looking ahead, the project aims to expand its reach and resource base to further uplift the Ruaraka community through education, recognizing that literacy and life skills are fundamental drivers of economic growth and poverty reduction. Overall, the project demonstrates strong, positive outcomes by transforming lives and contributing to long-term community development.
