Educate and Empower 400 PLWD as Leaders in Nigeria

We are pleased to share progress with our corporate donors, partners, and individual supporters. Our advocacy milestones have been achieved, and we are now charting a transformative path through the IDEAS Framework—Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Sustainability.

Foundation and Global Acceptance

The Sustainable Transformative Education Project (STEP), a 10-year strategic program, has built a strong foundation of trust and partnership. In just three years, it has gained global and local recognition as a platform for mobilizing persons living with disabilities (PLWD) toward self-reliance and leadership.

The redesigned project, Educate and Empower 400 PLWD as Leaders in Nigeria, will launch on the GlobalGiving crowdfunding platform in the second half of 2026.

Transforming Through Education

Our experience demonstrates the power of education to shift mindsets from dependency to self-reliance. Empowering PLWD through skills development and economic inclusion—especially in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI)—is our core motivation. Too many graduates with disabilities remain unemployed or underemployed due to lack of practical, employable skills.

Research-Inspired Initiatives

Findings from our Needs Assessment on Special Education Students at the University of Jos inspired new projects anchored on the IDEAS Framework. These initiatives integrate inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, and sustainability into policy-driven, data-driven, and corruption-free ecosystems.

Key projects include:

1. IDEAS Academic Scholarship Program for African Leaders (ASPAL): Supporting talented PLWD to access secondary, polytechnic, and university education, while addressing high dropout rates and underemployment.

2. Accessible Websites Initiative: Advocating for legislative and policy attention to end discrimination and exclusion faced by over 30 million PLWD in Nigeria.

  Partnerships and Corporate Engagement

As a GlobalGiving member, GIEVA is leveraging partnerships with internet providers, banks, and businesses whose corporate social responsibility aligns with education and empowerment. Together, we aim to secure long-term sponsorships for strategic projects.

Upcoming Plans

GIEVA will design targeted micro-projects with corporate sponsors to support young PLWD. STEP will serve as the springboard for data-driven policy formulation and digital-powered training programs, ensuring inclusion in Nigeria’s growing AI-driven economy.

In second half of 2026, GIEVA will also launch a micro-project in memory of Dorothy Marcus, a passionate advocate for women’s dignity and disability rights. Her legacy inspires our continued commitment to equitable access and empowerment.

Progress and Community Collaboration

We are collaborating with the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) to ensure accountability and inclusiveness. Together, we are establishing a transparent application review and selection process for beneficiaries.

Behind the scenes, GIEVA is strengthening management systems, monitoring tools, and partnerships with skill trainers to deliver high-quality training, mentorship, and support in vocational, digital, and emerging technology fields. These efforts prepare PLWD for entrepreneurship, employability, and financial independence.
