Project Report | Oct 26, 2020
Hoping for volunteers to return to DAKTARI soon!

By Marie Bauvin | Project Leader

It's been so long since we've had international volunteers at DAKTARI and we just cannot wait to welcome them back!

Borders are open (with restrictions)

We are extremely excited to announce that South Africa has partially reopened international borders as of 1st of October, 2020!

Currently there is a requirement to be tested for Covid-19 less than 72 hours before departure. A list of countries that have high infection rate are also still prohibited to travel to SA. This list is reviewed every two weeks by the government.

We understand the uncertainty of international travel and will be flexible with booking dates and cancellations. We cannot wait to have our camp full of volunteers again!

New volunteer program!

Schools have been closed for several months during lockdown, and they have just reopened. As children still need to catch up on their school work, we won't be able to welcome them at DAKTARI until the end of January 2021.

Therefore, we came up with an exciting new volunteer program :

The Nature & Culture Experience!

This program is designed for wildlife lovers who want to learn more about the South African bush and local traditions. Volunteers will experience all that DAKTARI has to offer, right in the middle of the bush, surrounded by many different animals and amazing people.

We will deliver practical activities around various topics such as trees, birds, animal tracks, mammals, insects, reptiles and how they interconnect in the ecosystem.

Volunteers also will learn about the local customs and beliefs, language and traditional food with our devoted staff.

Finally, through our Community Outreach Program, they will have the opportunity to teach underprivileged children from nearby villages around DAKTARI, visit the schools and the village.

Our Environmental Education program should resume in January 2020, unless new health and safety measures are put in place by the authorities.
