Educate a Girl in need and give her the ability to transform her life, enter the workforce & have a voice in the media. $150 covers the entire vocal education in media studies of one girl in Turkey, as well as further grooming. We strive to be transparent: we document each girl's education and connect her to her donor. Join us in not only educating 1 girl, but 500 in Turkey!
Girls 18-24 from across Turkey from lower middle class backgrounds are unable to continue or afford their studies and are sometimes discouraged from studying. Some fathers have lost their jobs or if they have limited funds will educate only the sons. There's a market shortage of jobs and discouragement from hiring women for the few spots as men have to support a family. We seek to increase women's representation in influential media positions.
As spearheaded by Turkish author Elif Shafak, Educate a Girl Turkey funds an intensive vocational training in media studies in partnership with British Council & leading global and local journalists, with supplemental training in professionalism & grooming to produce trained journalists across Turkey with heads up/cutting edge in the tight job market. This programme is enabling women to have a voice in the media and increase their self-confidence.
We are actively engaged in educating, grooming, mentoring and placing these girls in the job market, both in radio/tv/print journalism and PR/social media bloggers for multi-nationals/corporations. This project is helping women get and keep jobs and then create a system to hire others. We are reminding girls they have a voice, giving them a platform for that voice to be heard and the freedom to say whatever they want.
