Standing Strong, Rising Stronger: I-SEEED Youths’ Continued Response After Hurricane Melissa
When Hurricane Melissa tore through our communities, it left more than physical destruction in its wake, it disrupted livelihoods, deepened vulnerabilities, and placed immense strain on already fragile food systems. Yet, in the face of adversity, something powerful emerged: unity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to rebuild together.
From the very first moments after the storm, I-SEEED Youths stood firmly on the frontlines, not only responding to urgent needs but laying the foundation for long-term recovery and resilience. What began as emergency relief has now evolved into a sustained movement of hope, dignity, and transformation.
We extend our deepest gratitude to GlobalGiving, UNDP, and our growing network of donors and partners. Your timely and compassionate support has allowed us to move beyond response into recovery, rebuilding, and reimagining stronger communities.
Emergency Feeding & Community Care: A Lifeline in Crisis
In the immediate aftermath, food insecurity surged across the communities we serve. Families who were already vulnerable found themselves struggling to access even a single daily meal.
In response, we expanded our Emergency Feeding & Community Care Programme, ensuring that no one was left behind.
Hundreds of warm, nutritious meals prepared and distributed to families, children, the elderly, and displaced individuals
Strategic coordination with local police, ODPEM, community leaders, and volunteers to safely reach high-risk areas
Priority support provided to women-led households and those who lost income due to the disaster
Integration of fresh, locally grown produce from our farms, demonstrating the power of community-based food systems even in times of crisis
For many, this programme has been more than a meal, it has been a source of comfort, dignity, and hope during uncertain times. And as recovery continues, so does our commitment.
GlobalGiving Grant Impact – Turning USD $40,000 into Lasting Change
We are proud to share the meaningful impact of the USD $40,000 grant from GlobalGiving, which has been carefully and strategically deployed to meet urgent needs while strengthening long-term systems.
These funds have enabled us to:
Restore and enhance classroom environments with essential learning materials for hurricane-affected schools
Sustain and expand feeding programme operations, including food procurement and preparation resources
Strengthen programme infrastructure to ensure continuity, even during emergencies
Every dollar has been maximized with intention, transparency, and accountability, directly touching the lives of children, families, and educators who need it most.
From Relief to Resilience: A Social Enterprise That Sustains Impact
Even in the midst of disaster, I-SEEED Youths continues to demonstrate that sustainable development is not paused in crisis, it is accelerated.
Through our social enterprise model, we are producing and distributing value-added agricultural products that directly support recovery efforts:
Sweet pepper powders and seasoning blends
Fresh farm produce
Small-batch agro-processed goods
These products are not only sustaining our operations, they are transforming lives:
Used in feeding programmes to ensure quality and nutrition
Sold locally to generate income that is reinvested into community initiatives
Creating opportunities for youth training, women’s economic empowerment, and long-term sustainability
This is how we move from short-term relief to long-term resilience, by building systems that sustain themselves and uplift entire communities.
Education & Safe Spaces: Rebuilding Futures Beyond the Storm
The hurricane disrupted more than homes, it interrupted education and stability for countless children. Through GlobalGiving support, we have been able to respond meaningfully:
Equipping classrooms with essential supplies and resources
Strengthening early childhood learning environments
Supporting schools as safe, nurturing spaces where children can heal, learn, and grow
Our ongoing partnership with institutions like Marlin Avenue Basic School reflects our belief that education is a cornerstone of recovery and a pathway to breaking cycles of vulnerability.
A Growing Wave of Global Support
One of the most powerful outcomes of this journey has been the increasing interest from the international community.
In recent months, multiple international organizations and funding partners have expressed strong interest in supporting and collaborating with I-SEEED Youths in 2026 and beyond. These engagements are a testament to:
The strength and innovation of our integrated model (agriculture, climate resilience, youth empowerment, gender equity, and education)
Our transparency, accountability, and proven impact on the ground
The global relevance of locally driven, community-led solutions
This growing momentum signals not just recognition, but expansion. It means greater opportunities to scale our work, deepen our impact, and reach even more communities in need.
Partnerships That Power Progress
None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our partners:
GlobalGiving – for flexible, responsive funding and continued belief in our mission
UNDP – for technical guidance and institutional support
Local and international donors, volunteers, and community partners who have stood with us every step of the way
Together, we are not simply rebuilding, we are reimagining stronger, more resilient systems for the future.
Looking Ahead: Rooted in Resilience, Growing with Purpose
As we move forward, our vision remains clear: a Jamaica where communities are empowered, food systems are resilient, and every individual, especially youth and survivors have the opportunity to thrive.
With every meal served, every classroom restored, every product created, and every life touched, we are building something far greater than recovery, we are building a future.
To our GlobalGiving family and all our supporters: thank you for standing with us. Your support is not only helping us rise after the storm, it is fueling a movement of transformation, hope, and possibility.
Together, we are rebuilding lives, stronger, smarter, and more resilient than ever before.
