This project supports the education of Kenyan children in rural areas and urban slums. Building a good foundation is essential in education. We support Early Childhood Development centres with provision of feeding programmes and teaching resources. In urban slums the government primary schools are often overcrowded so many children attend non-government schools which have unqualified teachers and limited resources. Afterschool tuition programmes supplement the education students get in school.
Although Government provides Free Primary Education there are many challenges for children in rural communities and urban slums trying to complete formal education in informal learning institutions or public schools. These include; Cost of uniform, textbooks etc; Quality of education compromised by class size, quality of staff and lack of resources; Pressure to carry out household chores or work to provide for the family; Early Childhood Education is not provided for a same level as Primary
Our goal is to complement the education being offered by government and informal schools. In order to improve children's ability to reach their potential we focus on supporting two areas of education. These are Early Years Education which gives young children a strong foundation for their Primary education by developing language and numeracy skills and After School Tuition which provides a supportive environment to reinforce learning and improve academic performance.
We will support children through their early years and primary education to help them reach their potential and increase the number of children achieving grades that give them access to secondary education. This will ultimately increase their earning potential in the long term and help break the cycle of poverty for their family. Feeding programmes at Early Childhood Development centres will improve the health of children as well as improving attendance rates.
