Dear Friends,
Happy new year to you and your loved ones! Hope your new year is off to a fresh, crisp start and 2023 brings you closer to your aspirations and dreams.
It is time to bring you the first update in 2023 from OBAT’s Chittagong Preschool!
In anticipation of the New Year, the preschool underwent a mini facelift. There were some fresh decorations put up by the teachers which lended more color and created a lot of excitement as most of the décor was created by the students themselves!
A celebration was also held on World Children’s Day in November. The stars were none other than the students. They danced, sang, ran races and also dressed up to participate in the fancy dress competition. Events like these create a lot of joy for the preschoolers and teachers love to organize them as well!
Global hand washing day was also observed at the Preschool. Children were taught how to wash hands propoerly and given a bar of soap as a gift. The year came to a close with the announcement of the final exam result which was a cause for celebration. 90% of the 194 students who took the final exam received an A+, A- or an A grade!
Thank you for standing with us in 2022! As we embark on the New Year, our resolution is to make this even better and brighter for our preschool students and we need your help to make this happen! Do talk about OBAT’s Preschool to your friends, neighbors, family and coworkers- in short, anyone who shares your kind heart.
Stay tuned for the next update in another three months! Until then, stay safe, happy and healthy!
Your OBAT Family!

Dear friends,
Most of you around the world have experienced the first signs of fall already. Hope you are ready to rake the leaves from your backyards and enjoy the pumpkin infused scents and beverages, characteristic of this weather.
Being in late September means we are bringing our third update of the year to you! Where did the time go?
As always, OBAT’s Chittagong Preschool is brimming with the energy of all its little students. This time, we are introducing you to Brishti, a bright-eyed student at the Preschool.
“My name is Brishti. I am a student of OBAT Preschool. I am 5 years old. I live with my grandparents as I don’t have a mom- she passed away soon after I was born and my dad left me with my grandparents after her passing. I don't have any brother or sister.
I like coming to the preschool as I have many friends and we play together. It is a lot of fun to play with them. I am happy to study here too as our teacher is so nice. My favorite fruit is mango. I also like to eat chicken.”
Since we last updated you, the preschool also held its midterm exams. Currently, 196 tiny tots are enrolled at the school. Except for one student, everyone took their midterm exam and proved that they are one smart bunch indeed! 89% of the 196 students received an A+, A- or an A grade! Join us in congratulating our bright young students! This fantastic result was only possible because of your support. Without it, the children would not have access to free and quality early education. You are true champs!
With gratitude,
Your OBAT family.

Dear OBAT Family,
Summer is here and we hope that it has brought lots of sunny weather and happy moments your way. We are bringing you the second update for our Preschool, which, thanks to your support, is doing really well. Before sharing some of these amazing updates, we are excited to let you know that our 2021 annual report is out! Find out all about the impact you helped us make last year by clicking here.
Our students have been enjoying playing outside in the warm weather. They also really enjoyed participating in a book fair recently. The little ones loved the colorful new books and were very excited that they each got to keep one.
A couple of other fun events took place at the school as well. The school celebrated National Children’s Day as well as the birthday of the founder of Bangladesh. Both events gave students the chance to sing, and dance their little hearts out.
Suma is one of those children who participated in these exciting events. She shared with us a brief introduction which will give you an insight into the life of a preschooler in the camps:
My name is Suma. My father sells fruit to take care of us while my mother works at home. We are 4 sisters. My sisters are studying in OBAT’s School as well. I enjoy studying at my preschool. My favorite subject is English. I love to write and study it. My teacher helps me study and also tries her best to make sure that my handwriting is beautiful. My favorite flower is a Rose. I like to eat meat and ice cream. My favorite color is pink. I want to be a doctor when I grow up. Thank you for helping us study!
Thank you for always standing with us to support these precious kids. Your support will ensure that they continue to advance and thrive academically.
Wish you the very best and hope that you are able to create happy memories with your families this summer.
Your OBAT Family.

Dear OBAT Family,
Happy New Year!
As we embark on new adventures, aspirations, and goals, we are reminded that there is still so much work to be done. Together, we celebrate the New Year’s possibilities and hope that we can rise to the challenge together and help those who need it most. One thing we know for sure is that we are ready to take on 2022!
As always, there is good news to bring to you from OBAT’s Chittagong Preschool. And that is only because of the kindness of supporters like you who believe in making the world a better place by providing early education to young children.
The annual sports day and cultural program was held in early December. The students participated in different sports events and performed cultural dances. A fancy dress competition drew a lot of excitement and participation. At the end of the exciting program, prizes were distributed among the lucky winners.
The final exam results from 2021 were announced in January of this year. No surprise here but 90% of the 208 students who took the exam excelled with an A+, A- or an A grade! The little ones are hardworking for sure but their teachers are no less dedicated and committed to teaching them. Hats off to the teachers, one of whom is in charge of each of the nine preschools in Chittagong. Congrats to them and their young students!
It would be hard to fit in the 208 students here so we are giving you a peek into the life of one of the young students.
Meet Tamjid!
“My name is Tamjid. I am a student at OBAT Preschool. I am five years old. There are four people in my family. My father is a day laborer and works as a mason; he is 30 years old. He doesn’t get a job all the time and has to stay home some days. My mother's name is Sajia; she looks after us. We are one brother and one sister. My sister's name is Sanjida; she is one year old. We live in Halishahar, Chittagong. As my father’s job cannot take care of us, I live with my grandmother. I love all my family very much.
I like to play with toys and eat meat. I like the color, yellow. I also like to eat jackfruit. I want to be a good police officer when I grow up."
Hope you enjoyed getting to know Tamjid. We will keep introducing more students with each update so that you can get to know all of them better.
We hope that this new year brings you much joy and health and keeps you and your loved ones safe.
Thank you for walking with us in 2021. Here’s to treading 2022 with you!

We are back to let you know how your valuable support is continuing to create a positive impact in the lives of OBAT’s Preschool children. There is no better way to do that than introducing you to one of the children whose future is off to a great start all because of you.
Meet Farah!
“My name is Farha and I live in Jhautala School Camp. I study at OBAT’s Preschool in Chittagong. My dad is a day laborer and my mom stays at home and looks after us. I have two brothers too. They study in grade 4 in OBAT’s Elementary School. My father has to work very hard to take care of us, he is always busy working. When I grow older, I want to help him. I love my brothers and my parents very much.
I love to eat mangoes during summer. My mom makes delicious biryani, a dish made out of rice- I can eat lots of it! I also love to eat ice-cream and play with my football.
When I grow up, I want to become a doctor so that I can take care of my parents. Thank you for helping me study.”
Farha celebrated with her friends on September 12th- A lot of joy was seen on the faces of children at OBAT’s Preschool as it finally opened that day after continuous lockdowns imposed by the government. Children were ecstatic to be back and celebrated with balloons which they took home with them.
