Dear friends,

Is it just us or has time really flown by in 2023? It seems like yesterday when we shared our last report with you and here we are again with our third 2023 update!

First and foremost, we want to share our 2022 annual report with you. The report is a testament to the great impact you are making by supporting OBAT’s Preschool. We are truly fortunate to have your support which allows us to create a sustainable impact in communities which deserve it the most. Please peruse the report to find out how important actions and steps we took such as investments in training and development and focus on education programs, bolstered capacity and yielded results that broke the poverty cycle for so many. Thank you for creating a deep and indelible footprint with OBAT. Read annual report here.

There are more inspiring stories that you are helping us write than we can fit in our annual report. Here is one such story from the Chittagong Preschool:

Little Fatema loves to attend OBAT’s Preschool. She lives in Chittagong with her father, Yasin and mother, Sumi. Yasin works as a day laborer while Sumi works as a tapestry weaver to support her family. Fatema’s two brothers and one sister are her playmates. She looks forward to playing with them after school ends. Fatema especially likes to play with a ball and enjoys the coolness of ice cream and sweetness of her favorite fruit, lychee, on hot summer days.

Fatema loves the color pink- she would love to own everything pink! She is a happy go lucky girl, her twinkling eyes always shine with laughter and harbor the dream to become a teacher when she grows up.

Do tell your friends and family about Fatema and invite them to join you to educate many more young girls like her.

Thank you for your continuous support and the hope you are providing to our preschoolers.

 Stay safe and healthy!

Your OBAT Family!

Dear Friends,

Our team is excited to share with you our second 2023 update for OBAT’s Chittagong Preschool which has been thriving with your support!

We received some great news beginning of this year. OBAT received the 2023 Seal of Transparency from Candid. Formerly known as GuideStar, Candid is the world’s largest information portal on nonprofits. The platinum seal awarded to OBAT by Candid denotes the highest level of transparency exhibited by a nonprofit registered in its database. OBAT recently renewed its due diligence with Candid and upgraded its seal to 2023. Click here to view OBAT's profile on Candid.

A couple of fun days were a part of this preschool year. Children’s Day is celebrated in Bangladesh on March 17th. OBAT’s Chittagong Preschool’s celebrations are always on point as students play games, dabble with art and engage in other fun competitions.

Another exciting day in the beginning of this year was the book distribution day when students receive gleaming new books to start off the new year. There is always a lot of excitement and students are eager to start studying from their new books.

Noor is one of the preschool’s students and here is what he wants us to share with you about him:

“My name is Noor. My mom’s name is Soni. I live in Sardar Bahadur Nagar School camp with my family. I have 7 people in my family. My grandparents and uncle and aunt also live with us. I love all my family. My father is a daily laborer while my mom takes care of us all. I don’t have any brothers and sisters. I study in OBAT’s Preschool and like to go to school. During summer, I love to eat watermelon and ice cream. My favorite color is yellow and I love to play cricket with my friends. I want to be a policeman when I grow up.”

Now that you are caught up with the happenings at OBAT’s Preschool, take a moment to share them with your friends and family and invite them to join you in your passion to make a difference in so many little lives.

We will be back in three months with much more to share!

Have a wonderful start to your summer!

Your OBAT Family!

Dear Friends,

Happy new year to you and your loved ones! Hope your new year is off to a fresh, crisp start and 2023 brings you closer to your aspirations and dreams.

It is time to bring you the first update in 2023 from OBAT’s Chittagong Preschool!

In anticipation of the New Year, the preschool underwent a mini facelift. There were some fresh decorations put up by the teachers which lended more color and created a lot of excitement as most of the décor was created by the students themselves!

A celebration was also held on World Children’s Day in November. The stars were none other than the students. They danced, sang, ran races and also dressed up to participate in the fancy dress competition. Events like these create a lot of joy for the preschoolers and teachers love to organize them as well!

Global hand washing day was also observed at the Preschool. Children were taught how to wash hands propoerly and given a bar of soap as a gift. The year came to a close with the announcement of the final exam result which was a cause for celebration. 90% of the 194 students who took the final exam received an A+, A- or an A grade!

Thank you for standing with us in 2022! As we embark on the New Year, our resolution is to make this even better and brighter for our preschool students and we need your help to make this happen! Do talk about OBAT’s Preschool to your friends, neighbors, family and coworkers- in short, anyone who shares your kind heart.

Stay tuned for the next update in another three months! Until then, stay safe, happy and healthy!

Dear friends,

Most of you around the world have experienced the first signs of fall already. Hope you are ready to rake the leaves from your backyards and enjoy the pumpkin infused scents and beverages, characteristic of this weather.

Being in late September means we are bringing our third update of the year to you! Where did the time go?

As always, OBAT’s Chittagong Preschool is brimming with the energy of all its little students. This time, we are introducing you to Brishti, a bright-eyed student at the Preschool.

“My name is Brishti. I am a student of OBAT Preschool. I am 5 years old. I live with my grandparents as I don’t have a mom- she passed away soon after I was born and my dad left me with my grandparents after her passing. I don't have any brother or sister.

I like coming to the preschool as I have many friends and we play together. It is a lot of fun to play with them. I am happy to study here too as our teacher is so nice. My favorite fruit is mango. I also like to eat chicken.”

Since we last updated you, the preschool also held its midterm exams. Currently, 196 tiny tots are enrolled at the school. Except for one student, everyone took their midterm exam and proved that they are one smart bunch indeed! 89% of the 196 students received an A+, A- or an A grade! Join us in congratulating our bright young students! This fantastic result was only possible because of your support. Without it, the children would not have access to free and quality early education. You are true champs!

 With gratitude,

Your OBAT family.

Dear OBAT Family,

Summer is here and we hope that it has brought lots of sunny weather and happy moments your way. We are bringing you the second update for our Preschool, which, thanks to your support, is doing really well. Before sharing some of these amazing updates, we are excited to let you know that our 2021 annual report is out! Find out all about the impact you helped us make last year by clicking here.

Our students have been enjoying playing outside in the warm weather. They also really enjoyed participating in a book fair recently. The little ones loved the colorful new books and were very excited that they each got to keep one.

A couple of other fun events took place at the school as well. The school celebrated National Children’s Day as well as the birthday of the founder of Bangladesh. Both events gave students the chance to sing, and dance their little hearts out.

Suma is one of those children who participated in these exciting events. She shared with us a brief introduction which will give you an insight into the life of a preschooler in the camps:

My name is Suma.  My father sells fruit to take care of us while my mother works at home. We are 4 sisters. My sisters are studying in OBAT’s School as well. I enjoy studying at my preschool. My favorite subject is English. I love to write and study it. My teacher helps me study and also tries her best to make sure that my handwriting is beautiful. My favorite flower is a Rose. I like to eat meat and ice cream. My favorite color is pink.  I want to be a doctor when I grow up. Thank you for helping us study!

Thank you for always standing with us to support these precious kids. Your support will ensure that they continue to advance and thrive academically.

Wish you the very best and hope that you are able to create happy memories with your families this summer.

 Your OBAT Family.
