Nandri continues to empower young Dalit girls

Early education sets our girls on the right path

“Every girl child educated kills the demon of gender discrimination in Society”

Nandri believes that by educating our young Dalit girls, we are empowering them to make informed choices over their lives. Education gives them the means to escape the poverty trap into which they were born and become more fulfilled in every part of their lives. We believe that education is not a luxury. It is basic human right.

Nandri gives special focus on educating the girl children from the Dalit community. They are the children on the edge - the lowest rank of Indian society.  Dalits face discrimination daily at almost every level, from access to education and medical facilities, to restrictions on where they can live and what jobs they can have. This persecution, discrimination and poverty leaves Dalit children very vulnerable. Nandri gives them a chance to live fulfilling lives through support and education.

Nandri Mothers are highly motivated to send their children, especially their girls, to higher education. These mothers, with the financial support, loans and scholarships facilitated by Nandri, have opened the door of a better life for their children.

Leena Theresa is from a small village in Tiruvannamalai. Her father has leprosy and her mother is disabled.  A bright and hardworking student, she joined a medical electronics engineeering course. After two years she was forced to discontinue her studies as the family could no longer pay for her education. Leena Therese was heartbroken. Nandri stepped in and has agreed to sponsor her education until she qualifies. This young lady’s future has been secured by Nandri and she will have a wonderful career and be able in turn to support her parents and siblings in the future.

Without you, our donors, none of this would be possible. So far, with your help, Nandri has helped 255 girls to achieve their dreams of a worthwhile career, changing their own lives but also changing the lives of their families, communities and future generations of Dalits. The word Nandri means “Thank you” so to you, our donors, we say a big NANDRI!
