Our child education program continues to make progress. These days we are only adding what we call "special children" into our program. These boys and girls are either children of widows or mothers where the husband has abandoned his family. This happens quite frequently in India. There is no government family support for these needy families. In many cases when the husband disappears or dies the mother will be removed from the home which she has lived in since she got married. Generally a wife will move into her husbands family home after marriage. By helping these vunerable children stay in education, we are also helping the extended family as the child will be able to provide for them in the future. Once the child reaches third level education standard we will provide a loan to the mother to enable her to send her child to a suitable college. Her repayments are immediately re-loaned to other families.
