By Sharon Bollers and Pansy Marshall Browne | Project Leaders
First we would like to thank you for your generosity and support through our GlobalGiving September open challenge on and your commitment to improving the lives of children in Guyana through education.
As partners in this journey through the open challenge and now through this project we wanted to update you on our progress to date. After completing the open challenge we set out to kick start our project. The first part of the project is underway as we have purchased and shipped the desktop computers to create a computer lab for the 600 students that currently attend St. Agnes Primary School.
During the holidays, a few of our members will be travelling to Guyana to set up the lab and ensure that the teachers and students have everything needed to operate. We are very excited to be able to provide this opportunity to the students of St. Agnes. Having a computer lab will grant the students access to a whole new world of learning opportunities as both students and teachers will be able to utilize the vast number of educational programs and teaching tools available via the web.
Because of the success that we have had in funding this project due in large part to the support of donors such as yourself we have now expanded the project to not only provide a computer lab for the students but to also create a school library. Our goal is collect at least 600 books for the library so that each child can have access to at least 1 book on any given day.
Both we and the students and teachers of St. Agnes are thankful for this opportunity that your support has provided.
Sincerely,
Sharon Bollers and Pansy Marshall Browne
