It has been an exciting moment for 40 young girls on 14th of June 2014 at the Buds of Christ center, when the school kits were distributed. Every start of the academic year (June) Buds of Christ with the support generated through GlobalGiving and local donations has been benefitting young girls with school bags, uniforms, study notes and note books to encourage them to continue schooling.
All the girls benefitting are orphans who are under the care of grand-parents, widow mothers or extended family members. The educational support helps such care takers to send the girls to schools; other-wise most of the girls are married as early as 14 years.
“I am happy that my second daughter’s educational needs for the academic year is met by the support. Being a coolie worker I get only get jobs occasionally and buying note books and bags is a huge burden. Seeing me stressed, my relatives and neighbors even have encouraged to get her married. But I have been firm to get my daughter educated and this support is an encouragement for me and other mothers like me” expressed by a widowed mother of a 15 year old adolescent girl
The education support in terms of “Higher Education Scholarship” has enabled 24 young girls become first graduates in 2013 and 2014.
On JUNE 25th, 2014 – You have an opportunity to DOUBLE the support you provide for Orphan Girls at Buds of Christ. Every donation you make on the 25th is matched 100% by Microsoft Youth Spark and Global Giving Foundation. This means, when you sponsor one child, you are actually sponsoring two children.
