Buds of Christ strive to ensure girl children from rural areas are not denied education due to poverty. In addition to this, from the experience of working with young people, it has also been identified that additional skills are needed to equip them towards employment. So Buds of Christ through the educational support programme is also encouraging the young girls who have completed their 12th grade and studying college to also learn typewriting skills and support has been provided for them to develop it. This not only helps them in their career path but also provides more opportunities in the work sector in additional to their academic qualification.
Bhavithra comes from a rural area in Salem district. She has been able to complete her bachelors degree in English. Now she is undergoing type-writing course and would be appearing for her English Type-Writing lower grade exams in the month of February 2020. The course is helping her find more opportunities other than the educational sector alone.
Indhu was a drop out due to her health issue. After 12th, she did not have any form of support from her family in pursing her higher studies. So through Buds of Christ, she was supported for type writing skills and completed her examination in both higher and lower. Following this, she found interest in continuing her college education and now she is doing her second year in poly-technic course.
Eswari, has completed her graduation in English Literature. She lives with her widow mother who is a coolie worker, Eswari is appearing for her English Lower grade typewriting exam this Feb 2020.
All these efforts were possible with the generous support of GlobalGiving donors, who make it a point to support Buds of Christ and its work among rural orphan girls. The educational support encourages the care-takers (mostly grand parents and widow women) to encourage the children towards additional skill development.
