Monsoon is here. A difficult time for us indeed, as the working area remains extremely vulnerable due to water logging during this time. It’s good news that all of the children along with two schools we support have been safe from the recent flooding Bangladesh and whole of south Asia have faced. But there is still a strong chance of water logging as monsoon still continues.
Uttaran have been very pro active decision in this regard. We along with the community have built a road for connecting the infrastructures of Shishutirtho School. As it has been a regular occurrence that student would often slip and hurt by walking over the mud field. Now the students have a safe paved walkway.
Secondly, The “Community mentors” have organized series of meetings with parents, local community, and local leaders to increase the involvement of the community to support the underprivileged students. In this regard the size of the community mentors were increased. The teachers of Samakal School are now regularly reporting to the Community mentors on the progress of school’s activities. Hopefully in the next report we will provide a detail report on the action of our Community Mentors.
The most celebrated moment in the past three months was a distribution event organized jointly by Uttaran and Kagojpotro (A youth led volunteer organization). On 27th of June, 12 volunteers of "Kagojpotro" came to Shishutirtho School. They team have planned a daylong event for the children including dramas, song, sports and art. They have distributed various educational materials among 400 children i.e Copies, Geometry box, Map, pen, pencil etc. The highlight was certainly their copies which the volunteers have made by recycling used papers. It was a day of joy for the toddlers of Shishutirtho School. The distribution event also included storytelling and drama session to create awareness health & sanitation, early marriage, environment, and wildlife. One of the key actions was tree plantation. The students have planted various fruit trees around their campus and learned how to nurture it.
Currently all of the students are sitting for their half yearly examination. They have spent a long summer vacation and Eid holidays. We will keep all our project contributors updated on the results of examination.
To ensure safe transportation for the underprivileged students who travel from far villages Uttaran is now actively looking for supporters. As mentioned before a lot of supported students travel 10-15 kms everyday. Thus to ensure their safe transportation a school bus will be purchased. We will keep everyone updated.
Lastly, we are happy to announce between 34 of our graduates 30 of them have already got admitted in collage and started their classes. The female students are provided with scholarship from their collage. The other students will sit for college entrance exams next year.
