This project will provide school items (school dress, monthly stipend and educational materials) and develop big brother/sister initiative for 150 underprivileged children who comes from the most climate vulnerable place in the world and belong to poor, marginalized and Dalit families in Tala Upazila of Satkhira district in Bangladesh. By providing these items we can increase the attendance of school students, encourage them to do better, reduce drop out rate, child marriage and discrimination.
Bangladesh has achieved 100% enrollment in primary education but 38.3% student drops out of high school (Banbeis,2016). The condition is much worse in the south west coastal district, Satkhira, since the area is regularly affected by disasters (46% poor(WB,2016), and 30% Dalit population) and absence of quality education. Hence, it increases child marriage (70%), discrimination and decreases school performance . The project will work directly with 150 ultra poor students from Tala, Satkhira.
The project will provide monthly stipends, transportation and school items (copies, pen, pencil, shoes, school bag, school dress) to 150 students. A committee will be formed with teachers and parents through which ultra-poor children will be selected and the items will be provided. Also, build community responsibility and start big brother/sister initiative to encourage the need of quality education for every child regardless their background among the community.
The project will help 150 underprivileged students aiming to keep them from being victims of discrimination, improve educational quality and environment. Simultaneously, the project will decrease drop out rate and child marriage by supporting their education. Also, it will develop a sense of responsibility among the community to come forward together as one in ensuring education for all and standing up against the presence of child marriage, discrimination and high drop out rate.
