“Before, I had to sell my cow to buy what I needed. Now I keep the cow and my family has milk while I grow my crop.”
José Guzmán Santana, San Gabriel County, Jalisco, Mexico
“I planted a lot less because I didn’t know if I could sell it and I didn’t want to end up with a big debt. Now that I have a secure buyer, I plant twice as much.”
Germán Rodríguez Estrada, San Gabriel County, Jalisco, Mexico
Jose and German are participants of Fundacion Mexicana para el Desarrollo Rural´s Educampo project in Jalisco. As in Chiapas, farmers receive farm inputs financing, mentoring and training, and a buyer for their produce.
They talked to the New York Times about the benefits the Educampo project has had in their lives. Their stories are very similar to those farmers participating in our Educampo Chiapas project.
Read the NYT article to learn how Educampo has changed their lives.
