The Alik Sacred Forest, is the last home of the Higa-onon indigenous people, the sacred place to exercise their beliefs and cultural traditions, and the house of endangered species. 50 ha of the Sacred Forest are threatened to be bought by a mining company. We can buy it back and preserve it for perpetuity by giving it the status of common land. Support us in preserving biodiversity and ancestral knowledge. This is the first phase of a larger vision for building a tribal economy.
Tribes in Mindanao faced major problems like deforestation, mining, wildlife poaching and land selling. Tribal members are under the shadows of the capitalist and outsiders. All of those problems had brought by the decades suffering of poverty and hunger. The absence of food security programs, start up capital and absence of natures defense had plagued the survival of wildlife and the rainforest. But it is not too late, we can respond this to defend the nature.
Those major problems have long term solution to defend the natures and tribes. The problems solutions are the following: 1. Finance sustainable food security, community regenerative livelihoods towards building tribal economy. 2. Finance forest defense programs such as forest rangers compensation, rainforest inventory, wildlife protection and monitoring.
