Health

Long term survival skills-we have tried see to it that women keep healthy and their families through proper nutrition/balanced diet from a variety of crops grown by the elderly women.
We also monitor them in taking their drugs in time and these are (septrine and ARVs) and living positively through testing and counselling, avoiding stigma as much as possible.
Women have been supplied with seeds for green vegetables, maize, cabbages, Sukuma (greens), ground nuts and their own seeds like sorghum. These have not made any impact because of the long drought we have had from last July 2016 to date that has destroyed everything.

There is hunger all over the country. Food is very expensive for the people to afford buying it.
All matoke, sweet potatoes, cassava, Irish potatoes have dried up.
Life is very hard.

However, we have started realizing rains in late April but we have no seeds and on top of this, cassava, maize and sorghum have dangerous pastes that need a strong insect side.
Ways of survival on the side of food are difficult to our women; families stay on porridge and sometimes only water or nothing at all.

Local poultry; birds’ laying is not regular for they also lack food.
Piggery; the pigs are also starving as well as goats.

Hair dressing; some of our women have made small saloons after our trainings. With tailoring, while women are training, others have started working on their own. However, cares for elderly, care for OVCs have a big problem as the whole country has shortage of food.

Dramas performed at our various centers have continued to sensitize women on HIV/AIDS.
Charcoal making is still going on especially with the Tororo group of women

Challenges

We have had a very long drought which has caused people to have no food
All crops have dried up.
Getting seeds to re-plant is hard for we had already bought sand supplied them and there is no money
PLW, HIV/AIDS are suffering more because drugs are taken with no food eaten
Ongoing activities
We have started realizing rains
Planting sweet potatoes is on though the cuttings are still few
We are working very hard on all our activities despite of the poor feeding due to little food.

Suggestions

If there was some little funding, food for women, children and elderly could be bought for supply of May to early July.
More seeds for maize, beans, cassava, green vegetables, tomatoes, cabbages and egg plants have to be considered for buying.

We extend our sincere thanks to our esteemed dear donors who have continuously supported our health, families and projects especially Global Giving and River Fund organization of Florida.
