Care for the elderly women
This time we have taken keen care for Blandina. She has been given her special package of assistance because her health is not good. She is on great medication and her funds shs 3,300,000 has been given for food, medical and other cares.
We have also assisted other elders by giving some posho and beans
Care for OVCs and child headed families.
There is a lot of monitoring of these children. We make sure they go to school and we provide the necessary materials like scholastic materials, uniforms and where necessary beddings are provided for the very needy.
The child headed homes are always visited and food is provided like posho and beans.
The HIV positive each has a member from the group to make sure they take their drugs. We have started providing Septrine to complete their cycle of ARVs got from the centres.
HIV/AIDS
From funds got from our donors through the River Fund this April septrine has been given to women using the funds of April. It will on up to August 2018. We have planned for septrine to be given for 3 months then we shall see the way forward after August 2018.
Drama group / Long term survival skills
Drama group has emerged from our members
HIV/AIDS
This group sensitizes our community through music and drama. It has played a great role in the communities.
Long term survival skills
Many people have come up to be tested and have maintained self-awareness and out of stigma and people have been able to survive.
Tree planting
At least every member has trees planted in her home. This season we have encouraged members to plant at least not less than 10 trees.
Crafts
Our Bugiri group has done more craft practice in crafts making as other members also try. The crafts made earn some little money for the members.
Hair dressing
Our members that were trained have made their own small saloons and are also training others.
Agriculture
It is a basic practice for all the groups and right now during this season there has been good planting of beans, maize, ground nuts, magic nuts, sorghum and millet and people are now weeding and still late planting.
We have a lot of rain and we pray and hope to get better yields. Bugiri is also okay with rain.
Health
We make sure our members and community at large keep healthy through the skills we gave them from the long term survival skills, balanced diet, keep clean, get treatment in time for any diseases, advise for immunizations and other activities that maintain health.
Day care Centres
We are encouraging every group to have a day care centre just like RWEN. In day care, we feed even old women who are helpless as we feed the orphans and OVCs. Porridge and mid-day meals are provided.
Home visits
We visit our elderly women, talk to them and encourage them through counseling because some of them are desperate. We take food for them like posho flour and beans, sometimes sugar, salt and other needs as demanded.
We manage all our activities using funds sent to us and at times we also contribute food from members’ harvests.
Poultry (Local)
It is on in every home of members though still at small scales.
Piggery
It has become a tuff exercise as most of them die but the members keep on with the project. We have always called veterinary officers to help them.
Referrals
We have referred 5 female youths to PEFO for tailoring, 2 for computer training and 2 for hair dressing.
Developments
We hope to earn better yields because there is rain now everywhere.
Our HIV/AIDS patients are now getting septrine and they are very happy because they have lacked septrine for a long time. Long live Jaya and the River Fund, long live our donors.
Challenges
Transport is still a challenge for members to visit far places to elderly women, OVCs and sick children.
