It is a few months now, that we heard a further need from the local group of women "Wend-Songda": after their request of clean water for the Dodougou village, quickly funded thanks to many GlobalGiving donors, they now have time to pursue little income-generating activities, to emancipate themselves and to help the family escaping from poverty. After the construction of the well, they don't have to spend a lot of their time anymore, to walk long distances to fetch water; now, their problem is that they don't have any money to invest - even very small amounts - in little business (small commerce, little productions).
The women of the "Wend-Songda" group came up with the idea of a small microcredit project: each of them to receive a small loan and training on how to manage a small business and how to generate/increase their income in time. Upon restitution of the capital, the loan will be renewed, assuring the long term sustainability of the project. A proper training will also allow them to self-manage (as a group) the microcredit after the first year.
In time of global pandemic, understandably, many donations were and are steered toward Covid-19 related projects. Donations to this project, at the moment, didn't reach the amount for the project to be started: the nature of the project, in fact, requires that most of the funds are available before beginning it - the amount for the revolving fund (the amount of money to be distributed to the women) and the training costs need to be covered.
The women of "Wend-Songda" are still waiting, ready to start as soon as enough funds are collected to start. Now is the raining season, so they can have some small agricultural activities; but in few months, they will be once again with no resources to earn the little needed for them and their children. We hope to be ready before the dry season starts, to give hope to the 70 women of "Wend-Songda", their children and their families!
Thanks to all who already donated for the project and the ones who will donate; please, spread the word among family and friends!
