Thank you for your timely donation to the Ebola Crisis Relief Fund. Your contribution has already reached people facing tremendous fear, loss, and uncertainty as the Ebola epidemic sweeps through Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

With your support, GlobalGiving already completed its first round of flexible grants to vetted nonprofits  in the DRC and Uganda. These efforts are especially critical in the DRC, where one of the world’s longest-running humanitarian crises continues to be compounded by ongoing violence that disrupts both the Ebola prevention and response work

Across the DRC and Uganda, local organizations are responding to the disease outbreak in ways that reflect the needs of their communities. Here are a few examples of how your support is helping fuel those efforts:

  • Yatosha Services Foundation is providing hygiene supplies to Congolese healthcare workers and emergency aid to 2,5000 people in DRC at schools, churches, checkpoints, and orphanages in the most heavily impacted and vulnerable areas. Yatosha is targeting populations at greater risk, including female-headed households, children, and orphans.
  • Association d'appui aux initiatives de base-rdc (APIBA-Asbl) is helping communities in affected areas prevent the spread of Ebola through public awareness campaigns, hygiene kit distributions for 1,000 households, and training for more than 50 community volunteers to support early detection and response efforts. Together, these activities will reach more than 5,000 people.

  • World Action Fund (WAF), an Indigenous-led organization in Uganda, is equipping frontline workers with protective gear, distributing disinfectants and handwashing supplies, and leading community awareness campaigns on disease reporting, prevention and safe practices. These efforts are focused on communities along the DRC-Uganda border, where the risk of cross-border transmission remains especially high.

In a time of uncertainty, your generosity is helping communities access the support, resources, and care they need to stay safe. But the impact of your support is best expressed by the partners leading this work every day. As APIBA-Asbl shared:

“We are deeply grateful for your trust and for GlobalGiving’s continued support to frontline organizations like APIBA-Asbl RDC during this critical time. This contribution will significantly strengthen our Ebola response efforts in North Kivu and Ituri.”

Thank you for helping local organizations reach communities with the care, resources, and support they need right now.

With immense gratitude,

Kyra + the GlobalGiving team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
