By IsraAID Staff | IsraAID South Sudan
In South Sudan, ongoing conflict and displacement continue to place immense strain on local communities. Severe shortages of food, safe water, and basic healthcare have driven alarming rates of acute malnutrition, with young children and preganant and lactating women bearing the heaviest burden. In areas where medical infrastructure is limited or hard to reach, early detection and timely intervention are essential to saving lives - and that support often begins with trusted community voices.
To reach families before conditions become critical, IsraAID supports grassroots initiatives like Mother-to-Mother Groups. These groups create a reliable network where women learn from and support one another in navigating maternal and child health.
Volunteer Group leaders like Nyegoa are at the heart of this work. In her community, Nyegoa conducts regular malnutrition screenings for infants and young children, identifying early warning signs and referring serious cases to local health facilities for clinical care. She also offers practical guidance to new and expectant mothers on breastfeeding, infant nutrition, and hygiene practices - ensuring families have access to the information, support, and essential health services they need.
Thank you for supporting local leaders like Nyegoa, whose everyday dedication keeps their communities' most vulnerable members healthy and protected.
