This project provides medical equipment to Ukrainian children with diabetes. We give the children sensors for continuous monitoring of blood glucose levels, insulin pumps and supplies for the pumps. If the child does not have sensors, he or she receives 10-15 finger pricks a day to take blood for analysis. And an additional 4-5 insulin injections per day. All of this equipment is purchased by the parents of a child with diabetes. Few families in Ukraine can afford such expenses.
The Ukrainian state does not provide children with diabetes with sensors for continuous monitoring of glucose in the blood, insulin pumps and consumables for them. Those children whose parents are unable to buy this equipment experience daily torment of finger pricks up to 10-15 times a day. Glucose sensors prevent the possibility of a sharp rise or fall in blood glucose concentration. This significantly reduces the risk of complications that shorten the life of a person with diabetes.
We purchase and ship to the parents the medical equipment their children need. Special people in the organization review each request for assistance for relevance and the family's financial situation. We only help those families who are unable to provide the necessary treatment for their child. Every month, more than 20 children in Ukraine receive packages of medical equipment and medicines from us.
We hope that in the future the basic needs of children with diabetes in Ukraine will be included in the mandatory state program of free treatment. At the moment we are solving the problem as best we can.
