To expand the connection between middle and high school students in underserved communities to the climate justice movement, Earth Guardians' (EG) youth leaders will visit 28+ public schools nationwide to deliver a keynote on the climate crisis, lead students in a hands-on project outdoors, and support each school in starting an EG Crew with ongoing support. Our mission is for our youth mentors to inspire youth agency, community engagement, and positive climate impact in the most affected areas.
1) Gen-Z is the most likely to experience climate anxiety and believes their future is being robbed. 2) History also proves climate change disproportionately affects marginalized communities, specifically BIPOC youth. 3) Most inner-city children are impacted by Nature Deficit Disorder, which compounds the lack of education regarding climate change and how it can be mitigated. Under-recognized youth deserve climate justice mentorship, education, and training for future autonomy.
This program will provide BIPOC youth speakers from the EG Speakers Bureau to serve as inspirational mentors in various public schools throughout the US to inspire and educate inner-city youth, encouraging and fostering their engagement with the natural world and in climate and environmental action and impact via a keynote and a day of direct action. This transformational program will nourish connections to the natural world, climate justice activism, and long-term support to change lives.
We aim to bridge inequity by training marginalized youth to be resilient and educated influential leaders. We hear the needs of the youth and are committed to preparing them, through our programs, to gain agency in their futures and be a part of the change needed to help the global climate crisis. This program will bring thousands of underserved youth and communities into the climate justice movement, provide positive mentors, and encourage a connection to nature and ongoing support.
