Helping the Rugero I Basic School and the inhabitants of Rugero I, in Kirundo commune and province in Burundi, to have clean water is to cover the lives of students, teachers and the surrounding community who are in danger and raise development obstacles, particularly in rural areas. The municipality of Kirundo has a very low access rate to drinking water. It is estimated that about 10% of Burundian population in rural areas have access to drinking water.
The 13540 inhabitants of the hill with more than 1200 students of the Fundamental School of Rugero I have difficulty access to drinking water The rural population in Kirundo draws mainly drinking water from backwaters, shallow and unsecured traditional wells, or from lakes with all the negative consequences for hygiene and health. The quality of the water is obviously very poor. Many of the school infrastructures suffer from the from the lack of drinking water, which hampers the running of
- the construction of water supply systems powered by solar energy to raise water on the mountain and keep it in a reservoir to redistribute it by gravity using fountains; - Establishment of a gravity sand pre-filter to accommodate the waters of the Shinge mountain if necessary by a solar motor pump - Establishment of a water tower to supply the fountains - Installation of 4 fountains - the organization of an information and awareness campaign on water, sanitation and the reduction of risks
The project will provide better access to drinking water and improve hygienic conditions. All students and teachers with the surrounding Rugero I school community have an appropriate health plan by purchasing clean water for diseases caused by the use of dirty water for better living conditions . This AED project will generally help: - to improve the health of pupils and teachers as well as the inhabitants; - to improve inhabitants' economic resources by reducing health expenditure;
