Graduating the Nourish creche - class of 2022

This end of year/beginning year newsletter is always special to us, as we reflect on the sheer joy that is shared by the parents, siblings and children during a graduation. In South Africa, this event - transitioning from creche or preschool into "big school" is without a doubt, a BIG deal. Parents are proud of how far their children have come, how they are able to sing, dance, recite the alphabet, and proudly say what they want to be when they grow up.

Funding for our graduation is always so appreciated as it allows us to print certificates for the little ones, make sure we have enough graduation gowns for them to look smart, hire stretch tents and decorations and a sound system and very importantly make sure we have enough food so there is a feast for everyone.

We will be able to share proper school uniform pics in the next report as schools only start this coming week (after nice long December holidays), so for now, here is a little taste of the graduation, where 22 little ones got new uniforms to equip them for their educational journey ahead!

Thank you as always to everyone who gives to make our work possible. x

2022 has been an amazing year and we have 22 kids who will be graduating and moving to primary school. we are so excited for having this journey with them as it was not easy but we managed to reach our final stage with them although we will make sure that they get full uniform and stationary which they will use when going to primary because some of the kid's parents cannot afford to buy them school uniform and stationary .

We would like to thank everyone who has been with us throughout this whole journey . Your support really makes things easy for us and because of your help our goal to help all these kids is always reached .

We will be having our graduation celebration on 17 of december and we are grateful for your support.

Kind regards

The nourish team

In this year 2022 we were able to receive a lot of school uniforms and we distributed them to the children in  schools at Sgagule village .It's really an honor for us that kids will put on their uniforms during this winter and stay warm.We are extremely thankful for all those who donated .we are hoping to get more uniform since there are lot of other schools in the village and it's our goal to make sure that every kid must have uniform so that they can stay at school and learn.

We would like to thank you again for your support that will help us change the lives of many underprivileged kids by providing them with education.

Kind regards

The Nourish team

The end of the year is always busy, as we are busy planning for our Graduation at the Nourish RISE creche. Children in South Africa need a school uniform to go to Primary school, so even though government schools are free - without a uniform children cannot attend. And for many parents, especially now with Covid impacting jobs - the prices of the school uniforms is difficult to afford. So once of our focuses for our School uniform project is to support children that graduate preschool to make sure that they can continue their educational journey. So right now we are going up and down doing quotation of uniform in the stores. Each school has a different uniform, so this is lots of logistics, but the parents really appreciate the support, and it helps ensure the chidlren can go to school next year! Our little graduates are also practicing songs and dance moves for the big event ( it is very special for the parents to attend, and be so proud) we even made them traditional attire which they will wear on the graduation day. So we look forward to sharing with you the graduation photos and the little ones with their uniform which they will get soon! We are in planning and shopping phase now.

Thank you all for your support! Your donations help us to enable and keep children in school through uniforms.

Nourish - growing resilience
Nourish - growing resilience

Hi to all our beautiful donors and supporters,

We know that no one wants to get a report in which we say we have done nothing and spent nothing, but for the last few months, we have not been able to do much. We always want to say that we share our updates with 100% transparency, and so that is still true. That is why we want to be honest about the fact that we have not been able to buy school uniforms over the last few months.

Part of the reason is that schools have been closed, and with Covid-19 regulations and South Africa school restrictions schools have been closed over a month. In addition, we often do a lot of the shopping ( and spending all your donor money ) in the beginning of the year and then later on in the year around the end of the year, as these are the period when children are registering for school, buying new uniforms and their families needing support for school uniforms, jerseys, or school shoes.

So with schools shut and it being mid year and Covid, we have just let these few months slip past, focusing on providing support to the children when they come to Nourish, ensuring that at all times they have masks available, and providing more to those who need, ensuring we have tippy taps and can teach healthy habits and ensuring that the children can bring recycling to trade in our swop shop for sweets, or toys or little special items for themselves.

Yes - we will do school uniforms again, and yes it is more important than ever and we look forward to sharing the pics with you when we DO buy them, but for now, we have had to keep adapting and have focused on health, wellbeing and resilience for our children.

Thank you for being part of our journey and for your ongoing funding and support, each and every one of you.
