Art Mentorship for Poor Vietnamese Children

In July, we welcomed two talented young women, Linh and Bang, both art education students at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, for a month-long internship teaching art in our three communities.

They worked with over 60 girls in Son Tân (including our middle school class), 20 girls in Cam Tan and 45 students in Cam Duc — reaching about 125 students in all. For both interns, this was their first time spending real time in ethnic minority communities, and their first close look at the poverty many of our students' families face. It was an eye-opening month for them, as much as it was a meaningful one for our students.

Each intern designed her own lessons and projects, bringing fresh energy and new techniques to the classroom, all while building love and connections with the students.

Linh and Bang are both accomplished artists in their own right — their portfolios include striking portraits, still life’s, and scenes of daily life in Vietnam, built up over their years of study. Their skill and dedication are exactly why we want to keep growing this internship program: it gives young women a chance to build leadership skills while giving our students an unforgettable summer of art.

Looking Ahead

Today, two more young women began their internship with us for the month of August, continuing this new tradition of summer teaching and mentorship. We're excited to see what they bring to the classroom, and we look forward to sharing more about their work in our next update.

We're proud to be building this internship into a lasting part of our programming — one that develops young leaders while giving our students in Vietnam even more opportunities to learn, create, and grow.
