Dream Jamaica is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students identify their talents and leverage these talents for personal and professional growth. We have helped more than 200 students become more confident and achieve academic success. Mentoring is a foundational component of Dream Jamaica; the relationships facilitate students' success in attaining their dreams.
* Approximately 16.4% of the relevant age group is enrolled in tertiary institutions. * 72% of students who graduate from secondary schools do not go on to college immediately. * In Jamaica, there is only 1 college seat available for every 15 college-aged students. * Due to lagging internet access, there is little-to-no access to online options like Open Culture. * 30% of Grade 6 students are illiterate.
The Dream Jamaica Mentoring Program helps students currently enrolled in secondary school understand the requirements for tertiary level institutions and help them prepare through exercises aimed at building self-confidence and improving academic attainment.
Dream Jamaica strives to mitigate the educational barriers to a productive life experienced by Jamaican youth. The program instills lasting values that lead to higher self-esteem and independence.
