Happy New Year to all our donors! 2022 was a great year for the Rwanda Down Syndrome Organisation (RDSO) and we are sure 2023 will be even better.
Here are a few updates from the last few months of 2022:
DSi visit to RDSO office
DSi staff visited the RDSO office in Kigali, Rwanda in October. We were really excited to be able to meet in person after many Zooms, emails, and WhatsApp messages over the past few years. They have been allowed to use a small room in an office run by a local coffee business, which helps as they have very limited funding for these kinds of costs.
We spent a few hours talking about where the organisation is up to, current challenges and opportunities, and plans for the coming year.
Kigali self-advocacy workshop
While we were in Kigali, we worked together with RDSO to organise a self-advocacy workshop. This workshop was attended by self-advocates with Down syndrome from Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda.
It was brilliant to hear what the self-advocates had to say and all the advocacy work they have been doing.
Going into 2023 RDSO have no paid staff, they rely on the hard work of a dedicated team of volunteers. Despite this, they are able to achieve a huge amount with the money we are able to send to them and the small amount they can raise themselves.
Thank you to all our donors who keep supporting this important project!
