Hoarded Cats Treated at DoveLewis After Neglect

Butterbean begs for kisses from a DoveLewis veterinarian.
Six lucky cats received a second chance at a good life. 30 cats were rescued from a hoarding situation, and six of those were brought to DoveLewis to receive emergency medical attention.
The cats arrived at DoveLewis in bad shape – they had matted, dirty fur covered in feces and fleas and varying degrees of skin sores. Several of the cats also showed signs of respiratory infection.
They were all disheveled and in desperate need of care when they arrived at DoveLewis, though one cat, an orange Persian, smashed his face up against the kennel, desperate for attention. He meowed and begged for affection as they unloaded him.

During his initial exam, he was clearly overjoyed to receive pets and snuggles from the DoveLewis clinical team. While the other cats were more reserved, this furry feline cuddled, purred and leaned in for more head scratches. With a gentle hand, the DoveLewis clinical team examined him and provided lots of extra love. The other cats also received plenty of friendly care to ease their nerves.
The cats were treated in isolation and given antibiotics and pain medication for their infections. Many of them required care management for their wounds and open sores. Some of the cats received treatment for worms, ear mites and fleas. And all of them required some serious bathing and grooming to remove the dirt and feces from their fur.
All six cats began their road to recovery at DoveLewis and to finding their new forever home. The orange Persian was adopted by a DoveLewis staff member and his name is now Butterbean, and here he is making himself at home with his new family.
