Floyd says, "Thank you!"
Floyd has a great life these days. He's happy and healthy, and bouncing around like the cheerful pup that he is. But his life wasn't always this way. His story began when someone found him in the cold, alone and discarded in a shopping bag. Floyd was brought to DoveLewis, where he received compassionate care and treatment for his severe injuries, before being adopted into his loving forever home. His care was made possible by the generosity of DoveLewis' donors. Without them, we could not care for Floyd and the hundreds of animals like him we see every year in our hospital - giving them the treatment and care they need and deserve. Floyd says, "Thank you!"
Leelu: Lost and Lovingly Found

Leelu, a lost dog, was admitted to DoveLewis by a good Samaritan in November for severe injuries including several broken ribs believed to have been caused by a car. The 5-year-old Shar Pei Terrier Chow mix was reunited with her owner, Andrea, thanks to the DoveLewis Lost and Found online pet database. Leelu spent three days in the ICU. “The care that she was receiving was absolutely incredible,” Andrea commented. Andrea says Leelu is now “doing amazing,” making a swift recovery, and returning to her old self.
In the News: KATU News Features Rainy Day Pet Tips
It was raining cats and dogs in Portland during December, and the first thing on our minds at DoveLewis was pet safety. KATU News reported on our “Rainy Day Pet Tips” in an article explaining the hazards of standing water. According to DoveLewis Veterinarian & Critical Care Specialist Dr. Ladan Mohammad-Zadeh "Dirty standing water can carry potentially toxic chemicals from runoff or harmful bacteria and parasites than can make your pets very sick.” A reporter spoke with Dr. Mohammad-Zadeh about the dangers presented by standing water and increased rainfall which include leptospirosis, giardia, and toxic chemicals and shared the useful knowledge online.
Medical Marijuana and Pets
KATU news sought out DoveLewis Veterinarian and Critical Care Specialist Dr. Ladan Mohammad-Zadeh for expert advice on treating pets with medicinal marijuana. Dr. Mohammad-Zadeh advised that while plant-derived medicines have been historically very useful, pet parents should try traditional medicines first until more research confirms the safety and efficacy of medical marijuana on animals.
Thanks for your support of DoveLewis. Floyd's story is a great example of what we are able to do at DoveLewis for the 13,000+ injured, ill or abused animals who come through our doors 'round the clock every year. All of us at DoveLewis, and the animals, like Floyd, send our donors a huge thanks for your support and hope you have a great 2016.
