Kitten rescued from St. John's Bridge

On June 19, Portland  firefighters rescued a kitten from a girder below the main deck of the St. Johns Bridge. The female kitten, named "Lucky" by the firefighters, was turned over to an officer with Multnomah County Animal Services, and was then brought to DoveLewis for treatment of an eye infection and a chin abrasion before being transferred back to the county for adoption. No one knows how the kitten managed to find itself in such a precarious situation, but this heartwarming story had a happy ending that captured the attention of Portland media and animal lovers alike.

DoveLewis' Charlie Fund for Abused Animals helps in Portland cat stabbing case

Animal lovers were horrified to hear the sad story of two cats who were apparently stabbed a neighborhood of Portland and brought to DoveLewis in June. Both cats underwent surgery at DoveLewis, as the veterinarians determined the cats suffered from severe, penetrating wounds that would have been caused by something long and sharp like a knife. Both cats required surgery for their injuries.are doing well during their recovery.

Velvet Assistance Fund helped Molly; funding is increased in July

DoveLewis' Velvet Assitance Fund was there for Molly,  a 10 year-old Border collie mix picutred above with her family, when Molly had a sudden onset of facial swelling.  DoveLewis' 100% donor-funded Velvet Assistance Fund provides financial assistance for qualifying low-income families whose beloved pets, like Molly, face unforeseen veterinary emergencies. Thanks to the generosity of DoveLewis' donors and DoveLewis' dedicated Board of Direcotrs, as of July 2015, DoveLewis was able to incarese our donor-funded financial assistance program by 67 percent!

DoveLewis' Charlie Fund for Abused Animals saved Tinn-Finn's life

Tinn-Finn, a sweet Siamese cat, owes his life to the supporters of DoveLewis'  Charlie Fund for Abused Animals.  He was brought to DoveLewis after an apparent gunshot wound; Tinn-Finn received extensive emergency care and surgery at DoveLewis. Tinn-Finn sends a big thanks as he would not have lived without DoveLewis' generous supporters.

Gracie the Golden Retriever therapy dog visits a local hospital

Gracie is a new member of the Portland Area Canine Therapy Team (PACTT) and she is making her first hospital visit to Kaiser Sunnyside in this photo thanks to the supporters of our Portland Area Canine Therapy Teams (PACTT).  PACTT teams visit  long-term and skilled care facilities, assisted living communities, hospitals, residential treatment centers, schools, libraries, physical rehabilitation clinics, adult day care facilities and hospice facilities.
