A busy spring at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital

Spring has been busy at DoveLewis - here are a few examples of what's been happening at DoveLewis:

  • April was  an exciting month for DoveLewis' pet volunteers, who were honored several ways during National Volunteer Week (April 12-18). Our canine blood donor "Superheroes" were celebrated at an appreciation party at Lucky Lab brewpub  with treats for both the dogs and their owners -- Our Portland Area Canine Therapy Team (PACTT) dogs were also praised by the media for their efforts to enrich and save the lives of humans and animals every day.

  • A jet-black kitty, named Batman, spent a night in our ICU recently. He was showing signs that he needed something to hide under to be more comfortable. Our hospital staff were so smitten with Batman that they made him a cardboard "bat cave" for comfort, and it did just the trick -- he loved it! We got the nicest feedback from his dad, who said he was doing well after going home.

  • "Kitten season," which begins in March, really begins to peak in May for DoveLewis and its partner nonprofit organizations, such as Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) and Cat Adoption Team (CAT). This May we have seen a higher number of stray cats and their kittens, as well as litters of orphaned and abandoned kittens brought to DoveLewis by good Samaritans. DoveLewis never turns away sick or injured stray animals, thanks to our donor-funded Stray Animal & Wildlife Program, so we are able to help when these kittens in need are brought to the hospital frequently during this time of year.

  • DoveLewis Stray Dachshund Kizzy escaped through a hold in the fence of her home, and was happily reunited with her family through DoveLewis' lost and found pet database.

Enjoy some of our recent DoveLove stories from clients whose pets have been seen at DoveLewis:

"Simply amazing team! We had been up most of the night with our old cattle dog. He was near crisis and we knew he was near crisis and it was time. All who attended to our dog were beyond good. Such advocacy for pet and humans should not go unrewarded. Thank you!" ~Deb & Brenda

"Bella’s care was thorough and well executed. My needs as a concerned "mom" were addressed, as well as the physical and emotional needs of my Bella. I felt confident she was being well taken care of during her stay, and also felt equipped by the staff to appropriately care for Bella when I brought her home. Thank you for everything." ~Diana Z.

"Everyone at DoveLewis (from receptionist to the surgeon) turned what was one of the most frightening nights for us and our little girl, Tonks, into such a happy and enjoyable experience. We could not have hoped to find a better clinic or a more caring staff to help us through the procedure. Thank you!"  ~Joseph and Rachel I.

"Absolutely positive experience. All the staff were empathic and efficient in caring for my cat. When asking about condition of my pet, I received an immediate response. Very professional and caring clinic who served both my cat and myself."~Sarah M.
