A new endoscope helped Coda
A new endoscope helped Coda

Here are a couple stories from the hospital floor we're following this spring:

Your Gifts Make All The Difference

A leisurely weekend on Mt. Hood turned into a big adventure for Coda, a 6-year-old mixed breed dog. Coda’s family and friends were preparing for an evening of fishing when the pup snuck a dangerous treat – a piece of raw chicken on a fish hook! After a moment of panic, owner Matt Huiskamp knew he had to find a nearby veterinary hospital that was open late, so he visited two clinics, neither of which had the ability to retrieve the fish hook. The clinics recommended DoveLewis where surgeons used a new endoscope to recover the hook from Coda’s esophagus.

That endoscope is the second in our suite of life-changing equipment, and is the result of generous gifts from local foundations and many individual donors like you. What difference can such a gift make? Just a few hours after the procedure, Coda was ready to return home – minus the fish hook and without an involved surgery. Today, sweet Coda is back to enjoying family outings and weekends on the mountain.

You Helped Us Invest in the Best

Only 2,100 veterinary surgeons in the United States are board certified – and we have three of them thanks to you.
Andrea Sundholm, DVM, DACVS-SA, passed the final section of the surgical board exam, becoming one of just 2,100 Diplomats of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in the United States. With the support of our donors, we can make strategic investments in our team – like supporting Dr. Sundholm whose expertise in orthopedic, laparoscopic and arthroscopic surgery will advance our referral surgery specialty and solidify our role as the premier hospital for care in our community.
