Always Moving Forward!

By Luke Agness | Project Manager

Saludos AASD family!

Thanks in part to supporters like you all, we are well on our way to achieving our goals with coffee farmers in the Mapacho River Basin. The last few months have been incredibly eventful for us, as we were able to implement the third and final fertilization campaign before the coffee harvest begins in April. We expect to see major impacts on the health of the soils and the plants, as well as this year's harvest. As always, we believe that the well-being of our organization and of these communities begins in the soils; improved quantity and quality in coffee is the evidence of a project well-implemented. These improvements in coffee lead to increases in incomes which give farmers the freedom to invest in improving livelihoods however they see fit. Fortunately for the AASD, we are working with farmers who have truly taken this pholosophy to heart and taken ownership in the project by working hard to implement our ideas and expand their own.

Not only will we see improvements in production this year, but the price that this project's farmers receive for coffee is rising as well! Good Folks Coffee in Louisville and Orleans Coffee in New Orleans bought directly from the farmers and this project, and Good Folks already has it available for purchase on their website. If you would like to see the product that your donations here help create, consider buying a bag or two at the link below. Also, be on the lookout for an update from us when Orleans' roast becomes available.

Last but by no means least, we are growing the project! Each day, more farmers express interest in taking part in the project, but we lack the funds to include all who are interested. We've even taken the first steps to increasing farmer ownership in the project through the creation of a new coffee coop. Help us reach more by donating to this project! We are closer than ever to creating the impact needed to create sustainable ans self-reliant coffee farming communities!

As always, thanks to all of you and we look forward to the places projects like these can take Peruvian coffee growing communites.
