COVID continues to adversely impact each of us. Often forgotten is the lack of safe recreational activities for our children. In response to the pandemic, the CDC has instituted stricter safety regulations that require children to use his/her own equipment to return to safe play; thus, children can no longer share equipment. This change has tripled the demand for equipment requests from our organization. Help us ensure kids can get outside and play baseball and softball during the pandemic.
Many underprivileged children cannot afford baseball or softball equipment. Because of COVID, the demand for the same equipment has tripled because the CDC has instituted additional safety regulations which require all players to use his/her own equipment (no sharing). Children need a safe, recreational outlet that allows them to get outside and enjoy organized physical activity with other kids. Being confined to a house for too long is physically and mentally unhealthy.
This project will provide the necessary equipment for 6 teams or 72 children to safely play baseball and softball during the pandemic. The funds will provide: bats, balls, gloves, helmets, uniforms and more. By equipping these children to play, we provide a safe recreational outlet that allows them to exercise, be outdoors and have fun during such a difficult time. Baseball and softball are naturally, socially distanced and safer, in principle, than many other sporting alternatives.
Without the proper equipment, underprivileged children cannot take the field and play baseball or softball. By equipping them to safely play, we are not only providing them an outdoor recreational outlet during the pandemic but we are also teaching them about discipline, leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship which help build character and resilience. Instilling these values in a child is highly impactful to their personal development and the trajectory of their success in life.
